Belarus proposed to abandon the permit system for international freight transport with Azerbaijan. The initiative was voiced by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Sergei Dubina within the framework of the talks on the development of the North-South transport corridor.
The Belarusian side also suggested cancelling the road toll for Belarusian carriers in Azerbaijan. According to Minsk, this will reduce logistics costs and speed up cargo transit, especially in the direction of Iran and China.
Today, Azerbaijan plays a key role in alternative logistics for Belarusian exports. Only since the beginning of the year, two container trains have travelled to China via this country. The transportations included a multimodal segment with reloading at the border with Iran.
The North-South corridor remains a priority area of the foreign economic strategy. Discussions include infrastructure, integrated tariffs, and simplification of procedures.
